Maxxine Wright Place Project for High Risk Pregnant and Early Parenting Women

The Maxxine Wright Place Project supports women who are pregnant or have very young children (under the age of 2 at intake) and who are impacted by substance use or violence/abuse. Phase 1, the Maxxine Wright Community Health Centre, works with mothers to provide comprehensive women-centered health care and social supports, including pre- and post-natal medical and nursing care, alcohol and drug counseling, safety planning, daily hot lunch, outreach, advocacy and support in getting housing, income assistance, food hampers, clothing and household items, dental care, and information about other resources. We also offer several groups throughout the year.

For more information, please call 604-587-3835 or e-mail maxxwright@atira.bc.ca.

Based on the recommendations of a community needs assessment conducted in the Fall of 2003, future phases of the project will also include an emergency day care and transitional housing for pregnant and early parenting women who are homeless, and second-stage housing for women who face additional barriers (substance use, sex work, poverty, racism, ) to living independent of violence/abuse. Please click here for the report and proposed program model.

We are working in partnership with Fraser Health, the Ministry for Children and Family Development, and OPTIONS: Services to Community Society.
